Mental health has become one of the most important public health conversations of our time. Rates of anxiety, depression, ADHD, and behavioral disorders continue to rise, especially among children and adolescents. While psychiatric medications are often presented as the primary solution, many researchers and clinicians are now asking deeper questions about how these medications work, their potential risks, and whether we may be overlooking important root causes of emotional and behavioral challenges.
Understanding the full picture allows families and healthcare providers to make more informed decisions about care. The History of Psychiatric Medications Modern psychiatric medications began emerging in the 1950s, when drugs such as chlorpromazine (an antipsychotic), lithium (for bipolar disorder), and imipramine (an antidepressant) were introduced. These discoveries were largely accidental; researchers observed that certain medications altered mood and behavior and began using them to treat psychiatric conditions. In the 1980s and 1990s, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), such as fluoxetine (Prozac) and sertraline (Zoloft), became widely prescribed. During this time, the idea that depression was caused by a “chemical imbalance” in the brain, particularly low serotonin, gained widespread popularity. However, the science behind that narrative has increasingly been challenged. Questioning the “Chemical Imbalance” Theory Psychiatrist and researcher Professor Joanna Moncrieff of University College London has spent decades examining the foundations of psychiatric drug theory. In 2022, Moncrieff and colleagues published a large umbrella review examining multiple lines of research investigating the serotonin theory of depression. After reviewing decades of studies—including genetic research, serotonin metabolite measurements, and receptor studies—the authors concluded that there is no consistent evidence that depression is caused by a serotonin deficiency. Instead, the review suggested that antidepressants may work through a drug-centered model, meaning they alter mental states through psychoactive effects rather than correcting an underlying chemical imbalance. PubMed-indexed study: Moncrieff J, et al. (2022). The serotonin theory of depression: a systematic umbrella review of the evidence. This does not necessarily mean antidepressants cannot help some individuals, but it does challenge the long-standing explanation often given to patients about how these medications work. Concerns About Psychiatric Medication Side Effects Another important area of discussion involves potential side effects associated with certain psychiatric medications. Clinical psychologist Dr. Toby Watson, known for his work analyzing FDA adverse event reporting data, has pointed out patterns showing that a relatively small group of psychiatric medications—including antidepressants, anxiolytics, stimulants, and sedatives—accounts for a large percentage of reported cases involving:
These concerns are particularly notable during periods of medication changes, including when individuals:
In response to accumulating safety data, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration added black box warnings to many antidepressants in 2004 regarding the increased risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors in children and adolescents. PubMed-indexed research discussing antidepressants and suicidality includes: Stone M, et al. (2009). Risk of suicidality in clinical trials of antidepressants in adults. Risk of suicidality in clinical trials of antidepressants in adults: analysis of proprietary data submitted to US Food and Drug Administration - PMC Hammad TA. (2004). Review and evaluation of clinical data related to suicidality in pediatric patients treated with antidepressant drugs. Additional research has explored links between certain psychoactive medications and behavioral changes: Moore TJ, et al. (2010). Prescription drugs associated with reports of violence toward others. These findings highlight why careful monitoring, informed consent, and individualized treatment decisions are essential. Understanding ADHD Beyond Medication Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is often more complex than people realize. Many factors can influence a child’s behavior, focus, and emotional regulation. Some of these factors may include:
Children are still learning how to regulate emotions, process experiences, and communicate their needs. When these areas are not fully supported, behavioral challenges can emerge. Instead of immediately turning to medication as the first and only solution, it is worth considering how we can better support children through:
Strong family structure and positive role modeling can have a profound impact on a child’s development. Violence, punishment, or harsh treatment are never the answer. Children thrive when they feel safe, guided, and understood. Why Are Diagnoses Increasing? Another important question worth exploring is why we are seeing significant increases in diagnoses such as ADHD, depression, and autism spectrum disorders compared with previous generations. Possible contributing factors may include:
Researchers continue to explore these factors and understanding them may help us create better prevention and support strategies. A Holistic Approach to Mental Health Mental health is complex and deeply interconnected with physical health, emotional development, environment, and social support. Holistic approaches often focus on addressing foundational aspects of well-being, including:
Research increasingly supports the role of lifestyle interventions in improving mental health outcomes. For example: Lopresti AL, et al. (2013). A review of lifestyle factors that contribute to important pathways associated with major depression. Jacka FN, et al. (2017). A randomised controlled trial of dietary improvement for adults with major depression (SMILES trial). These studies highlight how diet, lifestyle, and environmental factors can significantly influence mental health. Supporting Children Starts at Home Ultimately, helping children thrive begins in the home. Patience, structure, love, and open communication provide a foundation for emotional resilience and healthy development. Parents, educators, and healthcare professionals all play a role in guiding children toward healthy coping skills and emotional awareness. By looking beyond quick fixes and asking deeper questions about root causes, we can create more supportive environments that nurture both mental and physical well-being. Mental health care should empower individuals and families with knowledge, compassion, and options—so they can make choices that truly support long-term health. Emotional Decoding and the Role of Bioelectromagnetics in Healing Another emerging area within holistic and integrative medicine involves understanding how emotional experiences and physiological stress can influence the body’s electrical and magnetic balance. The human body is not only biochemical—it is also bioelectrical and electromagnetic. Every cell communicates through electrical signals, ion exchange, and subtle electromagnetic fields that help regulate processes such as nerve signaling, heart rhythm, cellular repair, and tissue regeneration. Biomagnetic therapy, originally developed by Dr. Isaac Goiz Durán, works from the premise that disruptions in the body’s internal terrain—such as infections, inflammation, toxins, or emotional stress—can create imbalances in pH and electromagnetic signaling within tissues. These disturbances may contribute to dysfunction at the cellular level. Through the use of paired static magnets placed on specific anatomical points, practitioners aim to help restore balance to these disturbed electromagnetic fields. The goal is to support the body’s natural regulatory systems so that it can return toward equilibrium, or what many holistic traditions refer to as homeostasis. Research in the field of bioelectromagnetics has demonstrated that static magnetic fields can influence biological processes including cellular signaling, ion channel behavior, oxidative stress, and inflammatory responses. Examples of relevant PubMed-indexed research include: Zablotskii V, et al. (2016). How a high-gradient magnetic field could affect cell life. Rosen AD. (2003). Mechanism of action of moderate-intensity static magnetic fields on biological systems. Funk RHW, Monsees T, Özkucur N. (2009). Electromagnetic effects—from cell biology to medicine. These studies suggest that magnetic fields may influence cellular metabolism, membrane activity, and intracellular signaling pathways, though research is still evolving. Emotional Decoding in Biomagnetic Therapy In addition to addressing microbial or physiological imbalances, some practitioners also explore emotional decoding, a method that examines how unresolved emotional experiences may influence the body’s regulatory systems. Emotional stress and trauma can affect multiple biological systems, including:
Research in psychoneuroimmunology has shown that emotional stress can alter immune function, inflammation, and cellular signaling pathways. Relevant research includes: Dantzer R, et al. (2008). From inflammation to sickness and depression: when the immune system subjugates the brain. Segerstrom SC, Miller GE. (2004). Psychological stress and the human immune system. Within biomagnetic therapy sessions, emotional decoding may involve identifying patterns where emotional stress correlates with specific energetic or physiological imbalances in the body. By addressing these connections, practitioners aim to support the body’s ability to release stored stress and restore regulatory balance. In this framework, emotional health is not viewed as separate from physical health. Instead, mind, body, and energy systems are deeply interconnected. A Systems-Based Perspective on Healing Functional and integrative medicine continues to explore how biochemistry, bioelectromagnetics, emotional health, and environmental factors all interact within the human body. While conventional medicine often focuses on isolated symptoms, many holistic approaches aim to evaluate the entire terrain of the individual, including:
By addressing these multiple layers, practitioners hope to support the body’s innate ability to regulate, repair, and heal. As research into bioelectromagnetic, psychoneuroimmunology, and systems biology continues to evolve, our understanding of how emotional experiences, cellular energy, and environmental factors influence health will likely deepen. What remains clear is that true wellness requires looking at the whole person—not just isolated symptoms. Ready to take the next steps to your wellness? Book an appointment today! Dear Earthbound Therapeutics Community,
First, I want to thank you for the trust and connection we’ve built together. It is truly an honor to support your wellness journey. In order to maintain the highest standard of care and uphold the integrity of my practice, I want to lovingly but clearly communicate a few important boundaries that ensure a safe, respectful, and professional environment for everyone. Newsletters Going forward, I will no longer be sending regular newsletters through this platform. Creating them is time-intensive, and the feedback I’ve received is that many clients either do not read them or prefer to opt out. Instead, I will be sharing select blog posts on specific topics, along with updates on my availability, so you can access information that is most relevant and meaningful to you. If you prefer not to receive these communications, you can adjust your preferences at any time within your account settings and opt out of all points of contact. My purpose has always been to educate, support, and empower those who are seeking a deeper understanding of wellness and healing. My work is rooted in helping individuals explore proactive, integrative approaches to health rather than reactive, symptom-focused care. Thank you for your understanding and for allowing me to share the knowledge and experience I’ve gained over the years with those who feel called to this work. Protecting Patient Privacy & HIPAA Compliance Please remain in the lobby until I personally come to get you for your appointment. Entering the treatment space while I am still with another patient disrupts the session and compromises privacy. Your time is sacred, and so is everyone else’s. After-Hours Communication As much as I care, I am not able to provide medical advice or therapy recommendations via text or outside of business hours. These conversations require a proper setting and context to be both safe and effective. If you have a concern or question, I encourage you to schedule an appointment so we can give it the care it deserves. Maintaining Professional Conduct Please refrain from arriving under the influence of any substances that alter your awareness or physical state. It is not only unsafe but also impairs the therapeutic process. Additionally, while I always welcome genuine conversation, I kindly ask that personal questions about my life be kept to a respectful minimum. Your session is for you, and I want to make sure our time together stays focused on your healing and well-being. Cancelation Policy 48 hours' notice is required to cancel or reschedule your appointment, or I do charge 100% of the service fee. Please give at least 48 hours' notice to cancel. To ensure we receive your message promptly and can accommodate your request, please reach out to me directly via phone call or text message at 214.206.6046. Messages sent through social media, google, my website, or email may not reach me in time, leading to potential misunderstandings. Your understanding and cooperation are greatly appreciated. Proper notice allows us a greater chance of filling your appointment time slot with someone else. Refunds are subject to a 4% processing fee and will be reflected in any refund. To avoid paying this fee, I suggest you allow me to apply the credit to your account. Refunds will not be given for appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours notice. If you are late, your service will be shortened by the time you are late, and you will be charged for the appointment time that you were scheduled for. Your appointment time starts at the time you are scheduled, not when you arrive. Thank you for your understanding. Why This Matters These boundaries aren’t about creating distance, they’re about creating safety, professionalism, and mutual respect. My goal is to offer every client a peaceful and protected space to heal, and clear boundaries help make that possible. My Wellness Operation 2026 Going Forward I want to share an important update about how I’m refining my approach within my practice. I’ll be transitioning away from standalone nutrition muscle testing and integrating it fully within biomagnetic sessions. This combined approach is more efficient, less invasive, and ultimately more cost-effective for everyone. That said, there will still be a strong nutritional support element woven into your wellness journey. We’ll simply be working in phases that let us address root imbalances first with biomagnetic therapy. From there, we can still identify any nutritional needs and fine-tune your overall plan. This phased approach helps you feel better as a whole, while also allowing me to better support you every step of the way. Most people come to me because they’re overwhelmed, frustrated, or confused by their symptoms, and they want real answers, not another guessing game. To help you get clarity and results, I use a phase-based system so you always know where you are in your journey and what comes next. Here’s exactly how the process works: Phase 1: Functional Assessment (The Root-Cause Map) in person or telehealth This is the first and most important step. During your assessment, I evaluate: • immune stress patterns • inflammation + lymph congestion • environmental + microbial burdens • organ + gland function • emotional and structural patterns • hormonal imbalances • drainage pathways • mineral deficiencies • nervous system overload This session gives me the “blueprint” of what your body is trying to communicate and also any goals or what support you are seeking. Once I see the full picture, I create a personalized plan based on what your body presents, not a generic protocol. Phase 2: Biomagnetic Therapy (Correcting the Terrain) Once I understand your patterns, we begin Biomagnetic Therapy to address root-cause imbalances. This phase supports: • pH correction • viral, bacterial, fungal, and parasitic patterns • inflammation reduction • emotional coding stored in organs • lymphatic movement • improved detox pathways Depending on your case, this may take 1–3 mapped phases, each building on the last. But it is also determined how chronic you are and what you might be facing anatomically or emotionally. Each session is at least 2 hours long and I have found this to be most successful outcomes patients on all perspectives. Phase 3: Supportive Therapies (Strengthening the Systems) As your internal terrain becomes more balanced, we add therapies that reinforce your healing: • Visceral Manipulation – freeing organ tension and restoring motility Cranial-sacral- improving circulation of cerebrospinal fluid, releasing restrictions in the connective tissue, and restoring the rhythmic movement of the CNS system. • Ashiatsu / Fascia Release – deep structural optimization. • Thermography – visualizing inflammation patterns, hormone imbalance, dental and sinus stress, lymph congestion, gut heat, vascular changes, and breast imaging with zero radiation These are layered in at the right time, not all at once and not everyone is created equally. But also everyone journey is different and my goal here is to ensure that your body can integrate the changes successfully. Phase 4: Nutritional + Supplement Support Using whole-food and functional nutrition principles, I support your body with what it specifically needs based on your findings. This may include: • Standard Process organ or biological weaknesses and terrain within the body • Cell-Core protocols • Herbal support • Detox pathways • Immune regulation • Mineral balancing (K⁺, Mg, trace minerals) No cookie-cutter supplement plans, everything is customized to your case and your phase of healing. Phase 5: Re-evaluation + Maintenance Once your systems stabilize, we re-assess to confirm progress and determine what your body needs moving forward. Maintenance may include: • periodic thermography scans 3mos,6mos or yearly ( This establishes a baseline and preventative care depending where you are in your wellness journey) • tune-up or accute biomagnetic therapy • nervous system resets • nutrition adjustments • hormone support • detox maintenance The goal is long-term stability, not symptom chasing. at Earthbound you to be empowered and educated to take your health back and what your wellness will be going forward. Why I Work in Phases Healing isn’t random — it’s strategic. Your body heals faster, deeper, and more sustainably when we:
This keeps you from wasting time, money, or energy on things that aren’t needed. Massage Therapy & Bodywork There will be NO change, and anyone is welcome to book separately at any time aside from the other offered and separate therapies offered stated above. Are YOU Ready to Begin Your Wellness Journey? If you’re tired of treating symptoms and want to understand what your body is really telling you, an assessment is the best place to start. Appointments can be scheduled directly through here or through my website. Thank you for understanding and for being a valued part of this community. If you have any questions or need support, I’m always happy to connect, at the appropriate time and place. Rooted in Wellness, Natasha Baker, BS,LMBT,CTT,FMT,RYT (Earthbound Therapeutics, Wellness Owner) Celery (Apium graveolens) has long been viewed as a simple, low-calorie vegetable—but modern research continues to reveal that celery is far more than crunchy water. Whether consumed as fresh juice or eaten whole, celery offers powerful, long-lasting benefits for gut health, liver detoxification, oral health, inflammation balance, mineral support, and bone integrity.
Rather than positioning celery as a “trend,” science supports its role as a foundational food that nourishes the body at multiple systems levels when consumed consistently. Celery Juice vs. Whole Celery: What’s the Difference? Both forms are beneficial, but they support the body in slightly different ways: Celery Juice
Whole Celery
Best practice: include both—juice for therapeutic support, whole celery for long-term maintenance. Gut Health: Healing the Microbiome & Intestinal Lining Celery contains polyphenols, flavonoids, and natural plant salts that support gut integrity. Key Gut Benefits
Celery’s polyphenols have been shown to modulate the gut microbiota and reduce oxidative stress within the digestive tract, helping protect the intestinal barrier (important for leaky gut prevention). Research highlights:

Rather than acting as a “quick fix,” celery works cumulatively supporting cellular health, digestion, detoxification, and structural integrity over time. How to Incorporate Celery Daily
My Closing Thoughts Celery is not a miracle cure—but it is a powerful, evidence-supported therapeutic food. When consumed consistently, it supports the gut, liver, oral health, bones, immune function, and hydration at a foundational level. Sometimes the most profound healing doesn’t come from supplements—it comes from simple, intentional nourishment. Rooted in Wellness, Natasha B. Modern farming practices have shifted dramatically over the last century, moving from regenerative, soil-based growing to chemical-intensive agriculture. This transition didn’t just change how we grow food — it changed human health, microbiome diversity, chronic disease patterns, and the integrity of our immune systems.
One of the most concerning pieces of this puzzle is glyphosate, the world’s most widely used herbicide. But glyphosate’s impact goes far beyond weed control. Glyphosate: A Chemical That Reaches Deep into Our Food System Glyphosate binds tightly to soil and accumulates over time. Repeated spraying causes it to seep deeper into:
Even non-GMO crops now test positive simply because the contamination runs so deep. Why this matters: Glyphosate is proven to:
Cited sources:
Antibiotics in Soil: Another Hidden Issue Most people don’t realize this: many antibiotics are actually grown in soil-based cultures. But in chemical agriculture, those soil ecosystems are:
Which ultimately affects:
Repeated exposure to low-dose environmental antibiotics contributes to dysbiosis, Candida, SIBO, weakened immune function, and chronic inflammation. Cited sources:
Dr. Zach Bush’s Research: A Warning About Glyphosate and Human Disease Dr. Zach Bush MD — triple board-certified physician and former cancer researcher — has extensively studied how glyphosate impacts the microbiome, mitochondria, and systemic inflammation. His findings show:
He publicly states that our medical system is not designed to create wellness, but to manage symptoms. His research points to the root issue being cellular communication loss — largely caused by soil depletion and chemical agriculture. Cited references:
Pharmaceuticals: A Band-Aid, Not a Healing System Conventional medicine has its value — especially in acute emergencies. But chronic conditions (autoimmunity, gut issues, fatigue, hormonal imbalance, etc.) are rarely caused by a pharmaceutical deficiency. Pharmaceuticals often:
Big Pharma’s model is built on disease management, not restoration. Why Homeopathics and Whole-Food Protocols Work Differently Homeopathics and natural protocols do something pharmaceuticals cannot: They work with the body, not against it. They help:
Instead of suppressing symptoms, they teach the body how to regulate again. Why Standard Process & Whole-Food Nutrition Outperform Synthetic Supplements Standard Process formulations are based on:
When the body receives nutrients in their living form — not synthetic isolates — it can repair itself more effectively. Cited references:
Standard Process protocols help:
CellCore: A Quantum Leap in Detoxification Chemical farming has created a level of toxicity that requires modern solutions. This is why I use CellCore, which utilizes advanced Carbon Technology to reach deeper layers of the body where chemical and microbial toxins hide. CellCore’s advantages:
Glyphosate damages cellular communication — CellCore formulas help restore it. Cited references:
The Bottom Line: Chemical Farming Is Making Us Sick — But We Can Rebuild Health Glyphosate, soil antibiotics, and chemical agriculture are contributing to:
But the body is incredibly capable of healing when given the right tools. Holistic protocols, homeopathic support, Standard Process nutrition, and CellCore detox systems work because they address the root cause — not the symptoms. You don’t have to live in a world of chemicals without a strategy. You just need a guided, foundational approach rooted in nourishment, detoxification, and restoring the body’s natural intelligence. Rooted in Wellness, Natasha Baker,BS,LMBT,CTT,FMT,RYT One of the most common misunderstandings I see when people begin working with me is the expectation of a quick fix. I want to gently and clearly explain how I work, and why. Healing is not instant. It’s not linear. And it’s certainly not a “one supplement and you’re healed” situation. The body works in layers, much like peeling an onion. What we address first depends on your unique history: how long the issue has been present, how chronic it is, your detox capacity, mineral reserves, nervous system health, and whether your body has ever detoxed properly before. For example, if someone presents with thyroid dysfunction, we don’t jump ahead to everything else. We first help stabilize and support the thyroid so the body can regain strength. Only after that foundation is built can we safely move on to other systems. This is where kinesiology (muscle testing) becomes invaluable — it shows what the body is ready to address now, not what we wish we could rush into. Muscle testing often reveals mineral and nutrient deficiencies, but replenishing those stores takes time. The body must be receptive. Forcing supplements too early or too aggressively can actually slow progress or create setbacks. This is also why incorporate Biomagnetic therapy. Biomagnetic therapy allows us to address root imbalances (Virus, Bacteria, Fungi, and Parasites) more efficiently and can bring faster regulation to the body without harmful die off symptoms. That said, it is still a phased process. Each phase builds on the last for a reason, to ensure the body is supported, not overwhelmed. In some cases, once these phases are complete, we may discover deeper issues such as heavy metal toxicity. Magnets alone do not clear heavy metals, which means a targeted detox protocol may then be necessary via Cell-Core or whole foods. Again, this is not random. Every step has a purpose. I do NOT offer band-aid solutions. I do not hand out protocols just to “make symptoms go away.” My goal is long-term healing, not temporary relief. That said, healing requires commitment from both sides. I bring the knowledge, tools, experience, and discernment, but the client must bring readiness, consistency, and willingness. There is no magic wand. I cannot “fix” someone who is not ready to participate in their own healing. This work is an investment, of time, energy, and trust, but when done correctly, it creates real, lasting change and you can read about some of those testimonies on google. If you’re looking for a quick fix, I may not be the right practitioner for you. If you’re ready to walk the process, layer by layer, I would be honored to support you! Appointments are available for chronic, acute care that involves the above information as well as Thermography or Body Work from Ashiatsu, Craniosacral or lymphatic work. Where ever you feel lead, I am here to support you! Rooted in Wellness, Natasha Baker,BS,LMBT,CTT,FMT,RYT (Owner) Grey hair is often treated as an inevitable sign of aging—but from a functional and root-cause perspective, the story is more nuanced. While not all grey hair can be reversed, some types absolutely can be slowed, halted, or even partially re-pigmented when the underlying cause is addressed.
The key question isn’t “How do I cover the grey?” It’s “Why did my hair lose pigment in the first place?” What Causes Hair to Turn Grey? Hair gets its color from melanin, produced by specialized cells called melanocytes inside the hair follicle. When these cells slow down or stop working, hair grows in grey or white. This can happen for several reasons:
The cause determines whether reversal is possible. When Grey Hair Can Be Reversed (or improved) 1. Nutrient Deficiencies (Most Reversible) Melanin production depends on specific nutrients. When they’re missing, pigment production stalls. Common contributors include:
When deficiencies are corrected, many people notice new growth coming in darker at the root over several months. 2. Oxidative Stress & Inflammation Melanocytes are highly sensitive to oxidative damage. Excess free radicals can essentially “turn off” pigment production. Supporting antioxidant pathways can help protect and revive function:
This is one reason greying often accelerates during illness, toxin exposure, or chronic inflammation. 3. Stress-Induced Greying Chronic stress floods the body with cortisol and adrenaline, which can deplete melanocyte stem cells in the follicle. Research has shown that when stress is reduced:
This explains why greying can sometimes reverse after major life stress resolves. 4. Hormonal Imbalance Hair pigment is influenced by:
Thyroid dysfunction in particular is strongly associated with premature greying. Restoring hormonal balance can slow or partially reverse pigment loss in some individuals. When Grey Hair Cannot Be Reversed Not all grey hair is reversible—and it’s important to be honest about that. Grey hair is unlikely to return to color when:
In these cases, the goal shifts to slowing progression and supporting overall hair health. What Does Not Truly Reverse Grey Hair Be cautious of marketing claims. These do not address root cause:
Hair is a reflection of internal terrain. External fixes alone rarely work. A Root-Cause Approach to Greying Hair A functional approach focuses on:
This approach doesn’t promise miracles—but it does support cellular communication, repair, and resilience. The Takeaway Grey hair is not always a dead end. When greying appears early, rapidly, or alongside other symptoms like fatigue, hair thinning, or hormonal changes, it’s often a signal—not just a cosmetic issue. When the terrain is restored, pigment can sometimes follow. If you’re noticing premature greying and want a personalized, root-cause evaluation, this is where integrative and functional wellness can make a meaningful difference. References
Rooted in Wellness, Natasha Baker,BS,LMBT,CTT,FMT,RYT As we step into 2026, healthcare continues to shift toward earlier detection, functional insight, and personalized prevention rather than reactive disease management. One technology that continues to stand the test of time — while gaining new relevance — is medical infrared thermography.
Thermography is not new. It has been studied for decades. What is new is how modern research now confirms what many functional and integrative practitioners have long observed: Physiology changes before pathology appears. Heat patterns change before symptoms arise. And that’s exactly where thermography excels What Thermography Really Measures (And Why That Matters) Medical thermography uses FDA-cleared infrared imaging to measure skin surface temperature patterns, which reflect autonomic nervous system activity, vascular integrity, inflammation, and metabolic stress. Unlike imaging that looks for structural changes (tumors, masses, degeneration), thermography evaluates functional physiology — what the body is doing right now. This is critical because:
Thermography is not diagnostic — it is predictive and preventative, which makes it incredibly valuable when used correctly and serially. What’s New in Thermography Research (Why 2026 Is a Turning Point) Recent research continues to support thermography’s role in risk assessment, monitoring, and early physiological detection, particularly when used over time. 1. Inflammation Is Now Recognized as the Root of Chronic Disease Modern research overwhelmingly confirms that chronic inflammation underlies:
Thermography detects inflammatory heat signatures often years before disease manifests. Harvard Medical School confirms inflammation as a key driver of chronic disease https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/why-inflammation-is-such-a-big-problem 2. Breast Thermography & Angiogenesis Detection One of the most powerful uses of thermography is breast health monitoring. Before a tumor forms, the body initiates:
These changes create thermal asymmetries detectable via thermography. Journal of Medical Systems: Thermography can detect angiogenic activity associated with breast cancer development years before structural imaging https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27650217/ This is why serial thermography (baseline + follow-ups) is essential — it allows us to track change over time, which is far more meaningful than a single snapshot. 3. Nervous System & Hormonal Insight (A Growing Focus) Emerging interest in thermography centers on its ability to reflect autonomic nervous system balance, which influences:
Thermal patterns correlate with sympathetic vs parasympathetic dominance, making thermography a valuable tool in functional hormone, thyroid, adrenal, and stress-related cases. Frontiers in Physiology: Skin temperature patterns correlate with autonomic nervous system activity https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fphys.2017.00663/full 4. Cardiovascular & Vascular Risk Detection Abnormal thermal patterns in the chest, neck, and extremities may reflect:
American Journal of Cardiology: Thermal asymmetries correlate with vascular dysfunction https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19327433/ This is especially important for individuals with:
Why Thermography Is One of the Safest Imaging Tools Available No radiation No compression Non-invasive Repeatable as often as needed Safe for all ages This makes thermography ideal for:
FDA recognizes thermography as an adjunctive screening tool https://www.fda.gov/radiation-emitting-products/medical-imaging/infrared-thermography Why Serial Thermography Is the Gold Standard (Not One-Time Scans) Thermography works best when used as part of a longitudinal health strategy. A single scan = snapshot Multiple scans = story By comparing images over time, we can:
This is why annual (or semi-annual) thermography is considered best practice. A Gentle Reminder for Our Current Patients If you’ve had thermography with us before, 2026 is the perfect time to update your scans. Your previous images serve as a baseline, allowing us to:
Many physiological changes occur silently — staying proactive keeps you empowered rather than reactive. Why Thermography Aligns With True Preventive Care Thermography doesn’t replace traditional imaging — it complements it. It bridges the gap between:
By identifying physiological stress early, you gain the opportunity to support the body before disease takes hold. That is the future of healthcare. And in 2026, it’s no longer optional — it’s essential. Ready to Schedule Your 2026 Thermography Scan? Stevia is often marketed as a “natural, hormone-safe” alternative to sugar. It’s plant-derived, calorie-free, and widely promoted for blood sugar control. But emerging research suggests that stevia may not be as hormonally neutral as once believed—especially when consumed regularly or in highly refined forms. For many individuals experiencing unexplained fatigue, low libido, mood changes, fertility challenges, or stubborn metabolic dysfunction, stevia may be an overlooked endocrine disruptor, particularly impacting testosterone regulation. Let’s break down what the science is showing. 1. Stevia Acts on the Endocrine System — Not Just Taste Buds Steviol glycosides (the sweet compounds in stevia) don’t simply pass through the body untouched. Research shows they can interact with hormone receptors and endocrine signaling pathways, particularly those involved in reproductive hormones. Key concern:
A pivotal animal study demonstrated that chronic exposure to stevia extract resulted in reduced testosterone levels and impaired fertility markers, suggesting endocrine interference rather than neutrality. Melis, M.S. (1999). Effects of chronic administration of Stevia rebaudiana on fertility in rats. Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 67(2), 157–161. https://doi.org/10.1016/S0378-8741(99)00081-5 2. Testosterone Suppression: What the Research Indicates Several animal and cellular studies have shown that stevia may:
While human studies are still limited, animal endocrine disruption studies are often early warning signals, especially when hormonal pathways are conserved across species. Shivanna et al. (2013). Steviol glycosides affect reproductive hormone levels in male rats. Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology, 65(1), 88–93. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.yrtph.2012.11.001 3. Gut Microbiome → Hormones → Testosterone One of the most overlooked aspects of stevia is its impact on the gut microbiome, which plays a critical role in:
Research shows stevia can:
These shifts can indirectly lower testosterone by increasing systemic inflammation and impairing nutrient absorption (zinc, magnesium, cholesterol), all essential for hormone production. Nettleton et al. (2020). Non-nutritive sweeteners alter gut microbiota and metabolic pathways. Gut Microbes, 11(5), 1–13. https://doi.org/10.1080/19490976.2020.1746569 4. Stevia, Insulin Signaling & Cortisol Crosstalk Stevia is often praised for blood sugar benefits, but paradoxically, non-nutritive sweeteners can dysregulate insulin signaling over time, triggering:
Elevated cortisol directly competes with testosterone production, as both hormones share precursor pathways (pregnenolone steal phenomenon). Suez et al. (2014). Artificial sweeteners induce glucose intolerance by altering gut microbiota. Nature, 514, 181–186. https://doi.org/10.1038/nature13793 (While not stevia-exclusive, this study highlights systemic effects common to non-nutritive sweeteners.) 5. “Natural” Doesn’t Mean Hormone-Safe It’s critical to distinguish whole-plant traditional use from modern concentrated extracts. Historically:
This mirrors what we’ve seen with soy isoflavones, phytoestrogens, and even essential oils — dose and refinement matter. Who Should Be Most Cautious with Stevia? Stevia may be particularly problematic for:
Healthier Sweetening Alternatives (Used Sparingly) From a hormone-supportive standpoint:
The goal is metabolic honesty — letting the body recognize sweetness rather than tricking endocrine pathways. Final Thoughts: Listen to the Body, Not the Label Hormonal health thrives on clarity, not confusion. When the body tastes sweetness but receives no energetic or nutritional return, it can disrupt finely tuned hormonal feedback loops. Stevia may be marketed as a wellness solution, but for many, it may quietly contribute to:
If you’re already doing “everything right” and still struggling, this could be one of the hidden piece's worth reconsidering. Rooted in Wellness, Natasha Baker,BS, LMBT,CTT,FMT,RYT Cravings are often misunderstood. They’re usually labeled as a lack of willpower or emotional eating, but research shows cravings can arise from nutrient needs, blood sugar instability, hormonal signaling, gut microbiota, and neurochemistry. Understanding the root cause allows us to respond intelligently rather than override the body.
When Cravings Reflect Nutrient Needs The body can signal for foods that historically supplied missing nutrients. Chocolate & Magnesium Magnesium plays a role in over 300 enzymatic reactions, including nervous system regulation and stress response. Low magnesium status has been associated with increased chocolate cravings, particularly in women. Sources:
Red Meat, Iron, B12 & Zinc Iron and B12 deficiencies are known to affect appetite regulation and energy metabolism. Cravings for meat are commonly reported in iron-deficient individuals, especially menstruating or postpartum women. Sources:
Ice Cravings (Pica) Pica, particularly ice chewing (pagophagia), is strongly associated with iron deficiency anemia and is well-documented in medical literature. Sources:
Blood Sugar Instability & Mineral Depletion Cravings for sugar and refined carbohydrates are often driven by glucose dysregulation, not true hunger. Minerals such as magnesium, chromium, and zinc are essential for insulin signaling and glucose metabolism. Deficiencies can worsen blood sugar swings and increase cravings. Sources:
Hormones, Neurotransmitters & Cravings Cravings are tightly linked to brain chemistry:

The Gut Microbiome’s Role in Cravings Gut microbes influence appetite-regulating hormones, taste receptors, and food preferences. Certain bacteria thrive on sugar and refined carbohydrates and can amplify cravings. Sources:
Emotional & Learned Cravings Some cravings are linked to emotional regulation and learned behavior rather than nutritional deficiency. Highly palatable foods activate reward pathways in the brain, reinforcing habitual eating patterns. Sources:
How to Decode a Craving A simple rule:
Supporting the Body Instead of Fighting It Evidence consistently shows cravings diminish when the body is supported through:

Closing out: Cravings are not a failure of discipline; they are biological feedback. When we listen to the body instead of silencing it, we address root causes rather than symptoms. Rooted in Wellness, Natasha Baker,BS,LMBT,CTT,FMT,RYT A nutritional and physiological perspective
When the body develops a fever, it’s not malfunctioning, it’s responding intelligently. Fever is part of the innate immune response, designed to create an environment less favorable for pathogens while activating immune cells. Supporting the body nutritionally during this time can help the immune system work efficiently without unnecessary stress. One supplement often discussed in holistic and functional wellness settings is calcium lactate, a highly bioavailable form of calcium used in products from Standard Process. Why Calcium Lactate Matters During Immune Activation Calcium is far more than a “bone mineral.” At the cellular level, calcium acts as a signaling molecule, especially in immune cells. Research shows that:
Evidence:
Calcium, Fever, and Physiological Balance During fever, the body’s metabolic demands increase. Minerals—especially calcium—may be utilized more rapidly during immune stress. Calcium lactate is often favored because:
Importantly, calcium lactate does not suppress fever. Instead, it may help the body:
Evidence:
Immune Regulation vs. Fever Suppression This distinction matters. From a holistic lens, the goal is not always to “shut down” a fever but to:
Calcium’s role in immune modulation (not immune suppression) aligns with this philosophy. Additional supporting research:
Why Practitioners like myself use Calcium Lactate Clinically In traditional nutritional and functional frameworks, calcium lactate has been used to:
This makes it a supportive tool, not a standalone treatment and not a replacement for medical care when needed. My Final Thoughts While calcium lactate isn’t a direct fever reducer, studies have shown that maintaining balanced calcium levels can support the immune system’s overall function. Calcium lactate’s role during fever is not about “treating” the fever; it’s about supporting the body while it does its job. The science around calcium signaling and immune regulation helps explain why this mineral is often included in holistic immune-support protocols. As always, supplementation should be individualized, especially for children, those with kidney issues, or anyone on medications.
